Monitoring in mountains

Leica Geosystems is monitoring in mountains
Land slip areas can be monitored with the fully automated TM1800 and DI3000S system.
When some fifty million cubic metres of metamorphic rock threatens to quit, the extent of instability needs to be assessed and monitored.
In order to detect the slightest shift of this mass, prisms are installed on the face of the slip area. Monitoring stations on the opposite slope of the valley, automatically target the prism and locate them accurately by the use of infrared beams.
The horizontal and vertical positions are recorded. The precise position is then determined as polar coordinates, taking into account the distance and the mean of the angular readings.
Information obtained from one or many monitoring stations is transmitted seperately via modem withpout mutual interference to office computers, where it is accesssed.
The TM1800 Motorised theodolite combined with the DI3000S Distancer can carry out six surveys a day.
